Member accounts are free, they allow you to track your game scores, post comments and write blogs.  They also allow you to earn Account Credits.  Credits are awarded for actions, such as playing a game or several may be  awarded for posting something like a blog entry.  They are not financial tender.  They are awarded for the purpose of tracking seniority similar to other online systems such as forums.  Your level of seniority is attached to your experience using the site and your respect within the community is reflected by your account level.  It is possible to lose credits as well as to gain them and spend them.
