Greek men are sexier and make better boyfriends, the elder Aniston, 77, joked to PEOPLE Saturday at the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund‘s 20th Anniversary Gala in New York.

The organization has awarded over $1.7 million in scholarships to over 700 Greek students from across the United States. The annual gala attracts a large number of famous Greek-Americans. During the event actor Gilles Marini and John Aniston were honored.

Asked if he’d be happy if Jennifer, 42, ended up with a Greek man, John replied, “Yes, I would be glad about that.” But he’d have to be a “good Greek man,” Aniston added.

And what does that entail? “Honesty,” he replied.

John Aniston was born Yannis Anastassakis. He has played Victor Kiriakis on NBC’s Days of Our Lives since 1985.
